Yellowbeard
The CMP version is the newer version that has the connector for the parametric display on the Airflow Pro. Otherwise, it is the same memory.
Wired
NOTE: If you want 12 GB, get a 12 GB kit, NOT two 6 GB kits. There's no guarantee 2 separate kits will work together.
scook9
I already have one TR3X6G1600C8D and am think about adding a 2nd one since prices about halved, are you saying that I should not be hopeful of the 2 kits playing well together? I have a Rampage II Extreme and an i7
Wired
Correct. 9 different versions (each is a different IC), and there's no guarantee that identical kits will work together. COULD work fine, but you may have to lower the speed. On the other hand they could be completely incompatible.
scook9
Well that is comforting.....
scook9
If I find someone selling a kit that is the same model number and same version as my current kit would it be safe to assume those can be used together?
Wired
Cannot be assumed. Could work just fine, and certainly has a better chance than different version sticks, but nowhere near 100% guarantee.
scook9
Any way to verify what ICs are on the sticks from Serial numbers or what not? I have Ver2.1 and the kit that I found someone selling are also 2.1 so I am pretty stoked My kit and the kit in question also both say 09065326 under the bar code. Wired
Version # = IC. List is on the left. Just because they're the same IC doesn't mean they're guaranteed to be compatible, or that they're using the same PCB version.
scook9
No that I do not appreciate your advice, but it seems you are employing more of a CYA policy in saying that it may not work. Given that everything (at least externally) between the 2 kits seems to match, do you think it would work? I am not talking overclocking but just regular stock operation. scook9
Just a heads up but so far the 2nd kit is running great on my desktop. All 12GB are recognized and I have restarted several times without any sticks dropping out.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted February 8, 2011 Corsair Employee Share Posted February 8, 2011 If its working then like my pappy used say if its not broke let's don't fix it.::pirate::
scook9
That is my take on it. I do not plan to overclock the ram so it should never give me any troubles. The DDR3 1600 dominator ram does not overclock well anyways
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted February 17, 2011 Corsair Employee Share Posted February 17, 2011 Don't know what you are talking about, there are many users using this memory in fact there are several reviews on this memory that would suggest a little different results. But over clocking beyond spec is hit and miss and a lot of it will depend on the CPU. But if you are filling all six slots you are correct the CPU will not over clock as well. This is normal and not the memory.
