Gigabyte EP45 and TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF

Hello

 

I have similar problem with my RAM: TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF and ATI Radeon. When I play COD4 or other 3D games they crush. Could you advise me what settings I should chose in BIOS to get it stabilized? I've got Gigabyte Motherboard GA-EP45-DS3R, ATI Radeon HD4850. I am listing BIOS settings below - so far everything is in Auto Mode, RAM voltage 1.8 (also Auto)

I found it, thanks. There are still a few questions which come to my mind.

1. Why I spent money for 1066MHz memory and now need to set my clock back to 800MHz?

2. What is my RAM/computer performance impact when I overclock these modules back to 800MHz?

3. How I can distinguish that I have Version 1.x or version 2.x?

4. Can I overclock these modules exciding 1066Mhz and also get stable performance?

Keep in mind that you entered a thread for an AMD system so the settings given for the person that started the thread do not apply to your system at all.

 

You should be able to enter your BIOS and set the memory speed to run at 1066 on the MOBO you have. You will need to OC your CPU FSB to do this.

The thread was related to 1066Mhz memory speed and ATI Catalyst Drivers, which could work unstable under 3D games. Based on information form RAM GUY I need to overclock back my memory to 800Mhz. I did it yesterday and tested those setting under two 3Dgames, both worked stable and I did not see any problems with ATI Catalyst Driver. Previously I had similar problems like jbaines72. But still I have concern related to almost 300Mhz (memory speed) loss.

There should be an 8.11 driver out although I am not certain if it is still a beta or not. Stability is good of course but the choice of video driver should not have any effect at all on what speed you can run your memory. That is dependent upon the hardware, specifically the memory controller and the memory. Current AMD CPUs, and especially the quad cores are VERY unstable at 1066 whereas Intel P45s are very stable at 1066 assuming the other components are up to the OC. That is why I pointed out that the given settings would not apply to your hardware, regardless of what video driver you use.

I was curious as to why my video card drivers crash when I set my system memory to DDR2 1066. If I leave my memory settings in the BIOS set to auto (which makes them run at SPD settings of DDR2 800), everything runs fine. This only seems to happen when I play Call of Duty 4. If I set my memory to DDR2 1066, my computer boots, is stable, and everything works (such as web browsing, office software, etc.), but if I try and play the game, the catalyst drivers crash every time after about 5 minutes or so. Again, this is only at DDR2 1066, not DDR2 800, and it only seems to be 3D games.

Thank you for your answer. As far as drivers are concerned, I have the newest ones, BIOS also. This thread is very interesting for me since I saw similar problems with my computer (quoted above). I was searching for solution and 800Mhz setting for RAM solved my stability issues so far. Previously I experienced game and catalyst drivers crash during play. Problem occurred regardless of video driver version (as you mentioned). From my point of view it looks that there could be some kind of conflict between Radeon 4850 and Corsair memory. Now I would like to find root cause of that situation. Maybe I should simultaneously OC my graphic card; CPU and memory to the same frequency - do not know the answer so far, probably also do not understand all interactions between hardware I got.

I would expect that my RAM should operate on rated settings and not causing stability problems. Until now it works stable at 800Mhz. I am wondering if you could suggest me some solution which I could check/test.

I split your thread off from the other thread. There is no conflict with ATI cards and our memory and, the settings and advice in the other thread do not in any way apply to an Intel based MOBO.

 

So far, I have not seen you list any of your BIOS settings. Can you list ALL of your BIOS settings you have made for RAM, CPU, and voltages?

My previous unstable settings were: everything was set to Auto or Default, the system was stable during typical office operation (Excel Word Internet Explorer etc.) but unstable during 3D games. Each game crushed after about 5 minutes with warning that “display driver crushed….”

Thanks for advice, but I have already checked it. When I set my memory frequency to 1066Mhz (Auto mode) and my Ram voltage 2.1V it is unstable also. When my Ram frequency is set to 800 Mhz then no matter which voltage I set between 1.8 and 2.1 - the system is stable. So probably issue lies elsewhere.

Download Memtest86+ V2.01 from--->

and extract the ISO image. Burn the ISO image to an CD-ROM disk.

Shut the system down. Remove the second stick of DRAM and leave only the first one in slot 1. Restart the system and enter your BIOS. Load Setup Defaults. Save Setup Defaults. Anyone know why the game crushes? some special changes I have to do in BIOS?

Yes you can. Be sure to set the CPU Multiplier from 9.5 to 9. Be sure to have good cooling for those cards. They run VERY hot.

This is good that there are more people with similar problems and configuration :roll:, maybe we can resolve the issue. From may experinced setting RAM frequency back to 800Mhz improved stability. With 800Mhz I can play for hours with no error, crushes and Catalyst driver problems. But there is still concern related to 1066Mhz speed and I am going to run full test procedure soon.

Yes. Have u updated your bios? I did the online update "to F9 DS3" I hope that okey despite that I got DS3R.

Why should I underclock my cpu? Do I have to if I want to underclock my memory or?

 

And where to I change the CPU multiplier? What setting in bios ir that?

 

I'm kind of new to this so please explain.
