Default Deploying MSP over AD

Hi,

1. I want to deploy Office 2000 Service Release 1 and Office 2000 Service Pack 3 on all computers in my domain. I want to be able to do it through AD so that I don't have to go from machine to machine, running the updates. How do I?

2. The Office 2000 SR1 file is a MSP file and the Office 2000 Service Pack 3 file is an EXE file. How do I deploy these over AD?

3. I know you can do it through Group Policy > Computer Configuration > Software Settings > Software Installation. But I'm asked only for MSI files and not MSP and EXE files. Do I have to convert them to MSI and then deploy? How do I do this?

4. How do i do an unattended setup of this on all machines?

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gurusaman,

You will need to use the PROPLUS.msi file on the office CD to do the install. Go here http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;283686 to learn all of the switches to make an unatended install. As for the SP3 you will need the full Network version (this is ususally a large file) and run the exe. It extracts to one location before asking you for permission to procede. Copy all of the extracted files and cancel the operation. There is an msi file there.

NOTE: at the top of the link that I gave you there is a link to the Office 2000 switches.

Also a good idea is to slip the S3 in to your Office 2000 CD, then make a admin installation on one of your servers, then set up an OU and deplay the whole bunch over GPO´s

have fun
