My H100 grinds even worse when playing Battlefield 3... When will this madness end? Think you need a new parts manufacturer, because two H100's have both had this issue and it's unbearable. All I can hear is grinding every other second and I can feel it in my foot o.O

Default Quiet pump and fans on my new H100

A few days ago I decided placed an order on amazon for a H100, must admit I was a very uneasy about buying this product since I have been coming to this forum for a couple of months and been reading up on all the problems affecting these units and specially since I live outside the US and having to return the unit for replacement would be a bit expensive in my case.

Anyway, I received my H100 yesterday, lot # 12269403, and I'm very happy to say that the unit is totally silent; had to get really close to the pump to make sure it is working.

I'm in the middle of building a new rig and since I still need to order my processor and motherboard, I had to test the H100 by connecting it to a power supply that I had laying around; but like I mentioned before, my unit is totally silent, now I will just have to wait a few more weeks until I finish my new build in order to fully test it, but so far so good.

One thing that has me a little worried is that I noticed that the fans where relatively quiet, maybe it was because I didn't have them placed against the radiator, even in performance mode they where quiet; I did change the profile a few times and I did notice that the fans responded accordingly even though the speed change in the fans where not drastic and the sound that they made where nothing similar to the loud sound I have heard in the videos.

I will do a more detail test during the weekend since I have a slight suspicion that the fans might not be spinning at their max speeds.

you wont really notice an audible noise in the fans unless their mounted to the radiator.this is a board to voice concerns and problems, rarely does one post here unless they have a concern ,but i assure the ratio of good/bad coolers highly favor the plus side

Thank you for your reply.

In regards to posting in here I decided to do it because I thought it would help if I posted my unit's serial or lot number since I have seen quite some post in here of people posting their serial numbers and saying if the unit was working correctly or not and while I was at it decided to mention a concern that I had with my unit.

If I did something incorrect, then I am sorry but as I said before, thought I was helping.

Again, thank you for taking the time to answer my concern.

G'Day Crew,

JUst to let you know that I received my replacement H100 via the specific RMA process. A total of 5 days.

New unit is a 1227XXXX and is quiet as a mouse

Awesome work, thank you.

Do I need to ask for a return prepaid UPS label or is it up to us to return it?

Cheers,

Rob

Bought a H100 here the other day, had the H50 installed before, and been pretty happy with it.

But of course, i was one of the unlucky ones, as this unit have this pump sound everyone is talking about, seems to be working nice beside that, but its a very annoying sound.

Though found this "quick" fixes for it, by soldering on a diode to a molex connector and put it between the PSU and H100 molex connector. And with this the sound was gone, and everything nice one again. But i would very much like to get a unit where i don't have to go all "macgyver" on it for it to work properly.

So how does this RMA work for me when i live in Norway? Would i need to send in my unit first? Or?

Am I correct in my understanding that this special "Selective RMA" for H80/H100 Pump Noise problem is free shipping both ways? Or at least for North America?

@ Darkhorse you may need to contact CS and ask them. I believe they should but you should have received it already so be sure to check your spam filter and any other emails you have received from Corsair..

@Nitrius
Just follow the directions in the OP and they will contact you and set up an RMA. They should provide you with a prepaid label and also ship you a new cooler first and is not just limited to the USA.

@MadMax and Nitrius,
There was only one lot very early on that was identified to have an issue and it was not directly related to the pump noise. There are no known bad lot numbers and the pump issue is related to PSU's that put out more than 12v

Max, regarding the fan noise and speed...the fan spped will not change regardless of the profile you have selected if it isnot mounted. It has to detect a rise in temperatur and then the fans will react accordingly. It also takes about 30-40 seconds after switching profiles for the fans to react to the change.

Would turning up the fan profile help? Because I'm thinking (I'm most likely wrong) that if the problem is due to a higher than 12v voltage been put through the 12v rail, surely turning up the fan profile > making the fans spin faster > making them use more electricity would lower the amount available on the 12v rail?
I say this, because on my original H100 I would hear grinding when booting into windows, if I set my fan controller to max (100% instead of the usual 60%) the grinding would immediately disappear, on my new unit the grinding occurs when playing games about 20 minutes into the game.

Anyone with more knowledge than me got any ideas?
Thanks

I just got my 1st H100 (12159403) and I think it's making the noise everyone is talking about. The grinding noise is not normal at any volume (quiet, loud, ...) is it?

My PSU outputs 12.249V and I tried connecting the H100 to a fan controller but the noise didn't change at all. Tomorrow I'll try the diode fix but I'm afraid this one seems to be beyond "MacGyvering".

Edit: with two diodes it stays quiet for about a minute, ~1700RPM

My pump stays at around 2000 RPM with one diode, did you try with only one diode as well? Or did you go straight for two? If so, try with only one.

update on my H80...runs quiet and keeps the chip quite cool...27,29,29,29 at idle.have yet to run P95 or overclock.I'm just excited that the 3rd unit they sent me works as it's supposed to. Lot #12279402 quiet as a church mouse and also the fans are quiet as well. So after 5 weeks of frustration it has work out for the best. Also Corsair sent the 3rd unit without me sending back the 2ND one plus they sent me a Vengeance 1100 Headset For free.An unexpected pleasure that my customer will enjoy I'm sure. I'm glad this is over and hope that they have put an end to this major screw up.All you out there with the same problems ,my advise is to have patience, it will work out in the end. Good luck!

Yeah I tried with one diode (1N4006) first, 1950-2020RPM. No tapping, pipe flicking etc will stop the sound. With two 1N4006 if tap the pump really hard (ouch my finger) the sound stops for a few seconds. Looks like I got one of the jackpots units...

I'm about to get an H100 instead of the Thermal-Take Frio CPU cooler, I read about the noises but I think I will still go for it.

I really am torn whether my H100 is one of the so called defective ones. My H100 ran fine for about two months after I installed it in April. Then it started to make a noise. It used to occur more often than it does now. When it does happen I can smack my case and the noise will stop. Usually I smack the top of the side panel near the CPU. Eventually I will hear it again at some point in time for a few minutes then it will stop by itself. It is never a constant noise and as I said the noise has lessened over the last few weeks. I can go an hour or more without hearing the noise unlike before where it would come back after minutes.

My noise is not dependent on the speed button. I can have my H100 set to 1, 2, or 3 lights and not hear the noise. My normal operating procedure is to stay at two lights. Looking at the sensor report in HWiNFO64 it shows the +12V sensor running at a solid 12.096V. My PSU is a Corsair Professional Series 1050W. I hear the noise problem has to do with some PSU's.

Does any of this sound like the symptoms of a bad H100? Do you think the noise is coming from 'somewhere' else? Is there some place else around the H100 that needs to be tightened perhaps? All the retaining screws are tight but not too tight. I can't see any obvious things to cause a vibration. If it matters my case is a Corsair Obsidian 800D Full Tower. Anything about this case that might be causing the noise? Just throwing things out to you.

It would be a shame to install a new H100 just to hear the same noise.

btw... I already have a case number for this problem but since Corsair is not receiving a new batch until Aug 27 they told me to call back then to get an RMA number. I really don't understand why they can't send it to me when they get them in? Maybe it's because I would need it sent to me as a cross shipment.
