Upgrading from single drive system to SSD OS drive
So I hope I have this in the right forum ... it's mostly a software/installation issue, I guess.
I've been running my system for about a year and a half now on the single drive, and I just bought a ForceGT 90GB to install it as an OS dedicated drive.
While I've found almost no info on the web about how to proceed with this, I have come to understand that simply installing Windows on the new drive and setting that as the master will result in most, if not all, of my programs no longer working, requiring their fresh install. (I figured that rout was far too simple to work, anyway.) I am not completely adverse to this idea; however, I'd rather avoid it if possible.
What are my options here? Anyone have any links or recommended reading? Thanks.

I can sorta see what you want to do, you want to install windows on your SSD and just run your programs from your old install on your mechanical hard drive? (correct me if I'm wrong)
Unfortunately that isn't possible, there's hundreds of thousands of registry keys and symbolic/hard links to change, and it would just be easier and faster to reinstall.
What is possible is to install Windows fresh to the SSD, and then when you install your programs, is change the install folder to somewhere on your mechanical hard drive, so instead of choosing the default install folder for such as firefox for example (which would be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox") you would create a folder at "D:\Programs\Firefox" (assuming D: is your mechanical hard drive) and doing that for every program you want to install.
The only other way to do it, would be to create a second partition on your mechanical hard drive, and moving all your pictures, movies, music and documents to that partition until all you have left on your OS partition is the Windows installation and programs, and then cloning your Windows install to the SSD, and then changing the boot order in the BIOS to the SSD and then once you're happy that everything on the SSD is working, delete the Windows partition on the mechanical drive.
That's really the only way you could do it, and tbh, a clean install would be the best way, as that would clear out any gunk and bad configuration from your Windows install and give you the best performance from your SSD. :)

you can clone your drive and youll be keeping everything thats on the old drive running on your ssd
i had like 40 gig of programs and windows cloned that took less time to do than a win install itself would do
