Default 4 GB and 64 bit OS?

hello

I have heard that if we want to reach the 4 giga of the ddr3, we should use vista 64 bits. is it true? I mean, in case of the use of vista 32 bits or windows xp, we can not optimize the use of the ram from 2 giga to 4 giga
thanks

Any x32 OS will only address up to 3.5 GB of RAM, so yes, the x64 OS will support more RAM
