Hydro H100i v2 USB disconnect sound

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm suffering from constant USB disconnect sound coming from my Corsair Hydro.

The unit is connected to CPU fan which is set to 100%.

I've monitored the voltages on the CPU fan using HWiNFO64 (monitoring of Hydro was off at the moment) and got quite stable 12.000V to 12.096V.

HWiNFO64 also reports that the CPU fan speed is mostly constant @approx. 950rpm, but with drops every so often (around every 1minutes-2minutes) to around 750rpm. At the same time corsair link reports pump speed @1900rpm with drops to 1770rpm (I guess there is some kind of approximation filter on corsair link).

I've tried reconnecting the cooling unit to the second CPU fan, reconnecting the USB to another USB port and all kind of different configurations but can't seem to find any problems and therefore I would be grateful for some help on the issue.

Honestly, it really sounds like Link is restarting the driver. The driver can crash when it is accessed by multiple applications. Do you see this behavior when HWInfo is not running at all?

And what kind of GPU do you have? You mention GTX but there are several makers. I ask because EVGA's Precision XOC has caused issues in the past.

Thanks for the reply.

I've updated the hardware spec, the graphic card is MSI GTX 970.

The problem persists when HWInfo is off as well (I've installed it to check the voltages on the CPU fan).

I've also uninstalled MSI Command Center just to be sure that it's not messing with Corasair Link.

Do you think it's dangerous for the cooler?

No, I don't think that it's dangerous for the cooler, just annoying AF. I'm more concerned as to why it's happening too; it really shouldn't be. The only other thing that I can think of is that the driver is crashing ... but why? Can you post logs?

I found them.

Yeah, so those logs show Link restarting the driver, which is what's causing the connect/disconnect sound.

But why is the driver crashing? That's usually because multiple apps are reading the device at the same time; that'll crash the driver pretty quickly.

Thanks for the help, at least I won't be spending my time trying to reconnect the fan for the hundred time.

I've looked at all the installed apps and it seems that there is nothing there. Is there any way to check what other app is trying to read the device?

If you are absolutely sure that no other apps are accessing the device - usually monitoring tools but can also be anything that controls RGB - then you should check your USB drivers and make sure that they are up to date and make sure XHCI handoff is enabled in the BIOS.

From there, you can also test another cable. That cooler uses a standard mini USB cable ... so you can get a known good mini USB to USB-A cable and route it to an external USB port. This will help determine if it's a cable issue.

Ok, I'll try to get another USB cable and check that.

Is it possible that SteelSeries keyboard, GilaMouse or Wacom tablet is causing the problem?

If any of them try to control the RGB function of the cooler, possibly. Don't know as I don't have any of them. Well, my son has a Wacom tablet and an H80i V2 and no issues ... so I doubt that's it.

Bios XHCI handoff is enabled.

I've started uninstalling everything that could potentialy control RGB. Ended up uninstalling Corsair Link and the drivers stopped restarting. The fans are working and looking at HWinfo, the CPU temp is ok. Didn't hear an USB disconnect sound from the time I've uninstalled Corsair Link.

Now the problem is how to get corsair link working without the constant disconnections.

I've tried it just now, the design is much better than Corsair Link but unfortunately the disconnect sound just popped.

I seriously don't know what other software may try to access corsair cooler.

Did you ever get a fix for this? I just purchased and installed the 100I rgb Platinum and it is driving me nuts. So far the only thing that has slowed it down was to turn off all the LED's.

No fix so far.

I've tried installing Nvidia LED display, turning off all LEDs and installing it again.

Other than that you can uninstall Corsair Link but that leaves you without ability to control the cooling speed.

The H100i Platinum is a different issue and it's one that has been discussed frequently. This is something that Corsair is working to resolve and has various causes - one of which is Steam. In some cases, setting it to a static color resolves the issue.

Hi all,

I bought a Corsair Hydro Series H100i RGB Platinum SE and have quite similar problems.

Also I found out that the Service is trying to restarting all the time. I have some logs saved in my other PC, I will add here later.

I have some other RGB Software running (Roccat mouse, Razer Mousepad, Viper Keyboard, Aura Mainboard), may one of those cases also problems with the Corsair Software?

No its just a very big issue in the iCUE service. The issue is known since nearly half a year now and Corsair can't fix this...

Did you have the same results with a different USB cable?
