Hi there,

Yes that RAM kit should work just fine on the Maximus X Formula. The RAM was initially validated for X99/100/200 series at launch, but will work with Z370 just as well.

I'd shoot for option #2 if possible. As for mixing kits, it may or may not work, but it wouldn't hurt to try. In any case, if it doesn't work with option 2, you'd still come out ahead with more RAM...

XMP should work just fine with this combo. Anything above that will require manual tweaking and every kit is going to behave differently and require different timings/voltages.

Possibly a bad overclock or your system doesn't like the XMP (totally possible). If you haven't reset your BIOS to stock settings already, go ahead and do so and see if that helps.
