To answer your question in the title - iCUE is effectively New-Link. Link is dead. Everything is moving to iCUE. If you don't have RGB, all well and good, use iCUE as you would Link.

Ultimately, it won't make that great of a difference. At the end of the day, you want positive air pressure in the case (if for nothing but the sake of dust).
