    Can't be Corsair Link, as I get the disconnect sound and don't have a Corsair Link.

    I too have the same issue with the startup USB device disconnect sound. My symptoms are identical to all previous posters. I have also ensured that the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is disabled for all my USB hub devices.
