I tested launching apps with other macro/hotkey softwares and got the same bug, so it seems to me this is not exclusive to iCUE. It is more of a windows OS bug, that is why you have to edit the registry.
I found a fairly simple workaround. Just remap the G keys to the function keys F13, F14 and so on. Then get a third party macro editor (e.g. AHK) and map the function keys to run the applications you want.
