Default 3gb Ram not posting

other info doesn't seem important, but I was running two gigs of ram, identical ******** sticks, but a friend gave me a stick of corsair 3200 ram that he replaced. I've been trying to get my machine to post with three gigs in but I can't seem to do it with any configuration of the 3 sticks.

The board has 4 dimm slots, and is dual channel so i've been running the 2 ******** sticks in slots 1,3 and i tried the new stick in 2 and 4. Also tried mixing it up and doing the ******** ram in 2,4 and the corsair in 1, also didn't work. Tried mixing and matching, no dice on any of it.

I'm not an expert with ram overclocking or bios configuration in regards to this, the increase in ram to me seems like it might necessitate some ram controller manipulation to allocate more power to it or just to configure it differently.

you could do that, but then again maybe your ******** modules will vanish into black smoke

its never a good idea to mix different brands of ram. as all modules need different voltages, timings etc..

your far better off to get a 4gb kit instead if you need the extra amount of memory.

but your welcome to try....any info on your corsair modules can be found in this section: http://www.asktheramguy.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=38144

You need to set your Northbridge voltage +.2v and the command rate to 2T. Since your memory controller is integrated on the CPU die, you would do well to increase the CPU voltage incrementally as well. You are also advised to drop your DRAM speed from 400Mhz to 333Mhz. As mentioned, it is never advised to mix and match DRAM, but since you already have them, it will not hurt to populate all four DRAM slots and see if you can gain stability. Do not increase your DRAM voltage greater than 2.8v.

You lose Dual Channel Mode but with the AMD solution that is not nearly as great a thing (~3% at best and usually no difference at all) as an Intel solution. I would Memtest the stick first though as some people will give product that is non working away rather than garbage it. Why? I have no idea

None of this means you will be certain to get the sticks to play nice together, but it is what I would try to see if I gained boot and stability.
