the last one is very helpfull, but remember that every system should have it's own Voltage and settings.

for sure u need those O.C. utilities:
-RealTemp to read ur CPU Temperature.
-Linx For Stress and stability Test.
-Prime95 For Stress and stability Test.
-Intel Burn Test (IBT) For Stress and stability Test. (i really recommend to test ur system with this one first).
-Memtest86+ For Memory Stability Test.
-Lavalys Everest for voltages monitoring and other temperatures.
- CPUZ to See ur cpu and memory Clock.

On past new PC builds I've found that video game segments designed for stress testing worked best to crash or prove a system, after all the simple testing like Prime95, etc. were passed. I seem to recall that Futuremark was the software of choice. Is that still the case or is PassMark's BurnInTest 6.0 worth purchasing for this pupose or is there something better for free or cheap?

I usually run BurnIn Test, 3DMark06, EVEREST Ultimate, and PassMark Performance Test when I'm benchmarking/testing stability. I've found 3DMark06 and BurnIn Test to be the most strenuous of those though, and I usually run BurnIn Test first when I'm not sure about the stability of a piece of hardware (say testing a piece of RAM I've never used).

At least I think that BurnIn Test and 3DMark06 are the most thorough for this purpose, although it could be all in my head.

Never used Prime95, though I know everyone seems to rave about that one.
