Buzzing Noise from power supplies - Possible solution

Hello,

First of all, sorry for my english I'm french.

A buzzing electrical noise (not a fan noise) was comming from my power supply.(new PC : I7 920, DDR3, HD4870, Gigabyte X58-UD5,.. Corsair TX650).
I've made some test with another new power supply(not a corsair one) and the noise was still there .. so I've started to search why...

It seems that the problem was comming from the 'powersaving' systems use by Intel processors. Something seems to be wrong when they are activated in the bios ( a kind of incompatibility between MB-CPU-Graphic-Power working together).

Before the RMA procedure I suggest you to try to set the 2 parameters :

C1E and EIST (Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology) to disable in the MB BIOS.

It seems this solution is working fine specially for new PC (Core 2 duo or better).
Hope it will help some of people reporting buzzing noise to avoid unnecessary RMA.

My TX650 works fine and I'm happy of it.

i just registred ONLY to say THANK YOU MAN! i was thinking of returning my brand new TX-650 and you completly saved the day!

Corsair support, i really advice you to SAVE this piece of information cuz the buzzing noise (iiiii like electrical) was driving me crazy and i didnt belive my brand new i7 had to be so loud because of the psu.

Just an FYI-- I've been having a buzzing noise only in 3D games and came across this thread in the hopes it would help, but changing those two settings in my BIOS didn't do anything, unfortunately.

If its only within games, then it could be a driver issue. Try forcing Vsync to "on" either within the game itself if the option is there, or you should be able to do it through your video drivers settings.

Ahhhh, this pitched noise... Not very loud, but just enough to drove my ears mad !

So, the fix worked like a charm.

I started having this problem lately also. It's that same high pitched though not very loud buzzing sound, it kinda slowly drives you mad just like blablagum says. I was sure that this would be the solution, but unfortunately not for me.

Anybody else got any other ideas what it might be?

The C1E Disable in BIOS on my Asus P6T Deluxe did the job ;)

I had a extreme noise from the PSU (TX650) when my HD and mousewheel was in use. Now the PSU is complete quiet.

I have a P6T motherbnoard and a i7 processor aswell but changing the settings in bios didn't do the trick for me :(. I just replaced my TX750 PSU for a HX620 because I wanted one with modular cables and the TX750 didnät have the buzzing even with the settings enabled. What should I do, replace the PSu again? :(

I only experience this issue when doing 3D rendering in a few games but not all. Disabling C1E and EIST helped but did not completely solve it. I then forced VSYNC on with nvidias global settings. This further damped the sound but there is still a slight buzzing sound. Any other ideas? Somewhere in the mix between psu, mobo, and gpu settings lies the ideal set of settings to minimize or eliminate the noise without compromising performance.

No thanks button on this forum but just like Intel7 did but on a EX58-UDR3 set C1E to Disable and the noise is gone.

I Have a HX520 and even borrowed a HX620 wondering if my PSU was under powered, and they both made the noise. Both where back to silence after taking the advice here.

well i have the same sound from my tx750 psu but it`s really weird or should i say somewhat random...thing is that other psu does the same sound (tried 3 other brands with no luck)

-most of the times it`s there from bootup but dissapeares when bios gets past e-sata controller...there are times when it continues to make that sound
-after a reset from windows usually the sound dissapears...again not allways
-pitch fluctuates depending on sistem load

unfortunatly i have an amd sistem..tried different bios settings but no luck...and of course my mbo producer had no idea what was going on...any advice?

Like several others before me, I've registered specifically to thank TBW for his post. I've just put an Asus P6T SE and Intel Core i7 920 into my rig and immediately encountered an intermittent but very annoying high pitched electronic squeal. First thoughts were capacitors on the mobo but when I disected the machine into bits and ran it I found it was my HX520.

I came here looking for RMA advice but then saw the sticky and a couple of quick BIOS tweaks later all is well.
