Memory Replacement / Difference in Corsair Part Numbers?

I have a system I put together using an Asus P6X58D Premium motherboard and i7-960 cpu; I had built this system using two 6GB memory kits of PC3-12800 for a total of 12Gb of ram. Recently one of the kits developed a bad module and I removed the kit (3 x 2GB memory modules); the manufacturer is no longer in the memory business and I'm looking for a replacement kit with similar specs i.e. 8-8-8-24.

I searched for 6gb kits of PC3-12800 on Amazon and found two with matching specs: CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 and TR3X6G1600C8D both are listed as Dominator 6GB Triple channel memory kits and appear to have identical specs according to their individual product pages on the Corsair website but the CMP kit is about $65 and the TR3X is about $80 but there's no obvious difference between the two.

Can someone fill me in on the difference and are there any potential problems replacing the old manufacturers with a different manufacturers?

They updated the part numbers a while back. IIRC CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 was the new part number for TR3X6G1600C8D.

REPLACING memory is easy, however it sounds like you want to run one 6 GB kit from manufacturer X and one from Corsair. Mixing kits, even from the same manufacturer, is never recommended.

Best to replace all 12 GB with ONE 12 GB kit (not two 6 GB kits).
