H150i PRO AIO - how to setup extra set of fans for Push/Pull?

Hi,

 

I'm setting up a i9-9900 so looking to do everything I can to help with cooling.

 

1)

I will be using the H150i PRO, with included fans on Push.

I want to add another set of 3x 120 for Pull - probably ML120 PRO RGB.

 

I see in the h150i manual, the 3 push fans connect to the h150i and h150i is connected to CPU header for controlling the Fans/AIO

 

If I had the 3xML120 on Pull, how do I get those fans synced with the AIO Fans? Or thats not possible & I just set to a static speed or custom profile with Commander Pro?

But as I understand it, the Commander Pro will base its temp settings/profile on the 4 Heat sensors.

 

I guess I'mm just trying to work out how to best coordinate the Push & Pull sets.

 

 

2)

The h150i - Connect Pump to USB Header, If i'm using a Commander Pro, I suspect as the Commander Pro is connected to Motherboard USB header, that I can connect the H150i to the USB on Commander Pro?

 

 

Any advise would be appropriated, thank you

and the 3 extra fans you would run off of a Commander Pro.. this would allow you to sync fan speeds in iCUE by creating fan curves that match for both sets of fans on the rad.. using the H150i Pro liquid temp as the source for both sets of fans.

I'm using my H150i in a push/pull config with six ML120 Pro's. I've also fitted three 120MM fan frames repurposed as shrouds on the pull side of the radiator. The six fans are connected with splitters to two of the motherboard fan headers. I've set the BIOS fan curves so that the pull side fans ramp up a bit faster than the push side fans when the CPU is under load.

1) H150i Coolant Temp will be a control variable option in the Commander Pro interface. Make a custom fan curve, match it to the H150i custom fan curve (don't use presets for either device). The one small trick is the H150i will work in % max and the C-Pro will set it's control points at specific RPMs. You'll need to make your self a little chart from the H150i (55%= RPM?, 65%=?, etc). It only takes a few minutes.

 

The one catch is the C-Pro cannot read the H150i when iCUE is not running. In the absence of a control signal, it may max out the fans. This means it may blast the one side during boot. Not a terrible deal on lower speed fans, but nevertheless not perfect. There is a workaround for this. The C-Pro can always read it's on internal temp probe values. You run a temp probe from the C-Pro to the exhaust side of the H150i. Tape it down, probably between the radiator and exhaust side fans. The temp sensor end does not need to be perfectly in the middle and I prefer tighter to the edge so the wire has no chance of being pulled into the fan. There is a very close relationship between coolant temperature and exhaust air temp from the radiator. The exhaust air temp is usually just slight less, but that -1 to -2C offset will be essentially constant. This allows you to set the curves to match but without the start-up blast. It will probably take you a week or so to figure out the usual differential through normal observation.

 

Of course, the other thing is the fans do not need to be in perfect sync and sometimes it is preferable for them not to be. The fan set that is sandwiched between the case and the radiator is usually the louder one. I am running push-pull again now for the first time in a while and within a day I was already back to reducing the "in between set" to -200 rpm vs the push side. You're stacking pressure with two sets of fan, not airflow. There is no measurable temp difference for slightly varying speeds.

 

 

 

2) Absolutely plug the H150i USB 2.0 into the Commander Pro. That's what it is there for. These things are getting hard to come by on the mainboard.
