Default Obsidian 1000D: is fan tray necessary?

I wonder if I can install 420 rad and fans without a 420 fan tray in the front of Obsidian 1000D (the default one is 480 I think).

I couldn't find anywhere to buy a 420 Fan tray in my country (Japan). It seems that it is only available in Corsair US homepage.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

Default

You could install the top 3 x 420mm fan tray in the front.

If you need to, after removing the top fan tray, you can remove the top of the case. There are some screws attaching it to the sheet of metal that has 4 holes in it for the fans. Also you can remove the top rails that support the top fan tray. Then you can drill holes in the metal sheet that has the 4 large holes for the fans to mount radiator(s) and/or fans where you want. This is discussed at the start of this video:
