I'm having the same issue. It started shortly after getting the mouse, and has been getting progressively worse. I just tried spinning the wheel quickly, and it does seem to have helped a lot.

It seems to me like maybe a problem with dirt on the actual optical sensor or the disc it reads, both of which are inaccessible without disassembling the mouse. (At least, I assume that, like most mice, the wheel is read via a toothed or marked disc inside the mouse, that turns through a basic optical sensor -- so I'm not sure what good cleaning the sides of the wheel itself would do, though if I'm wrong, I'd love to know how this one actually works! :D )

Also, it seems a bit disingenuous to me, to say that it's not a common or rampant problem, when people have posted about themselves and a family member having the same issue, or about having the same issue with multiple replacements. Statistically, if it's just a manufacturing defect, assuming you're following anything remotely close to Six Sigma (which I assume you are), that's basically impossible. Call it improbable to the point of absurdity.

Also, I'm not sure obtaining samples of mice that are doing it consistently will help. If it is a problem with dirt or dust getting into the sensor apparatus, the jostling during shipping may well solve the problem, temporarily at least.

Interestingly, I just tried changing the report rate to 2ms instead of 1, and it seems to have solved the problem completely (albeit for about 2 minutes so far). Could it just be an issue of the wheel being read too often, and getting twitchy due to microscopic movements?

Has anyone else with this issue tried a slower report speed?

Edit: So lowering the report frequency seems to have completely fixed the problem. I get no noticeable degradation in mouse performance either, so for now, this is going to be my recommended workaround.

Would it be possible to update the firmware to lower the report frequency just for the wheel? Or does the whole mouse have to be on the same frequency?

Default Mouse M90 malfunctioning

I have the same problem stated by the original poster.

This is my second M90 Corsair mouse now. I stated the problem with my first mouse here: http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=114730

I got this second mouse for around 3 months now. It took me some time and effort to ask the RMA and wait for the mouse.

Whatever Corsair states, this looks like a hardware problem to me. I bought both of these mouses in different dutch online shops.

I just read that the original poster is also from netherlands. Could this mean that this is a regional problem?

Put in a RMA request Cryptex and let me know your case number.

Thanks for the reply. The mouse I have now just started to have the wheel issue very recently (few days ago). I've got this one through an RMA I asked.

My first mouse kept getting worse with time (managed to hold it for 3+ weeks). During the end of those weeks, the wheel problem occurred every time I used it.
I guess you want the case number to analyse the problem if possible. However, my current mouse doesn't always show this problem. So I think it would be time consuming to look for a problem that doesn't always appear yet.

I will try the 'extensively scroll wheel' trick I read here and try to continue. I'm to impatient to send another RMA and wait for that mouse to arrive.

If it gets really bad like my first mouse, I will send an RMA and give you my case numer.

EDIT:
Some extra information I got from testing the problem:

The scroll problem only appears at specific points on the wheel. So if I would compare the mouse wheel with a gear, then the problem always happens at the same teeth.

I started having this issue as well (its extremely annoying), but I destroyed the weel in rage!
The mouse is about 2 month old!Im verry disappointed!!!
So one question, can I get the weel separately? I fix it on my own, or have you an idea?
