Question No 2x2GB Corsair RAM in a 32 bit OS?

I'm a very happy Corsair customer. The quality of the memory has been great and the one time I needed to do an RMA it was the smoothest that I've ever had an RMA process go. Customer support has always been very helpful and easy to get into contact with.

I have 2GB worth of Corsair RAM in my current 32 bit XP SP2 gaming rig, but it's time for an upgrade.

I want to go with a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R motherboard with Corsair's TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF (2x2GB work of RAM). When I looked at the reviews for this memory on Newegg, I saw a post that stated that Corsair doesn't recommend the 4GB kits for 32 bit operating systems and that it's not supported under warranty.

Is this true? I work with computers all the time and I know that a 32bit Windows OS isn't going to see all 4GB of RAM. That doesn't bother me, but using the 4GB kit and not having warranty service available would be a show stopper for me using Corsair RAM again.

My question is if I buy the TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF for the GA-EP45-DS3R motherboard, will the memory work?

If it does work, will it be covered under warranty if something goes wrong down the road?

IGNORE THE WARNING. It's a badly worded warning about the limitations of a 32 bit OS. It's impossible for the memory to know anything about the OS.

YES, they're compatible:

That's for the response, Wired. That's my assumption, but I figured I would save myself some grief by trying to get Corsair\Mr. RAM guy to comment on it so there would be an official(ish) word from Corsair clarifying this.

That's why the whole thing struck me as really odd. I've been building computers for years and it makes no sense to me to deny warranty service because someone put 4GB of RAM into a 32 bit OS.

I actually haven't found that warning that was mentioned on the site anywhere, the only thing that I have found have been the standard and reasonable warnings to users that they can't expect a 32 bit OS to see all of the RAM if they decide to put 4GB of memory into a machine.

This is going to be used for my gaming rig and I'd rather have 3GB or so of RAM then 2 GB so I'm fine with purchasing 2x2 memory to get the maximum amount of memory.

My preference is to stick with Corsair memory for future builds because I've been impressed with the quality of the products and the responsiveness of the support people.

Hopefully, Mr Ram Guy will comment on this thread.

Default Moved to Correct Section!

You posted in the wrong section, and Wired is correct the statement was a miss print and has been corrected but some of the old inserts are still in use. Running 4 Gig will not VOID your warranty it's just that a 32 Bit O.S. will not see all of the memory.

Thanks, RAM Guy.

It looks like since last night that the motherboard I was looking at is out of stock so I'm considering an alternative which is the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R.

However, I can't find this particular motherboard listed in the Corsair memory search function. Can you advise what Corsair memory that I can use with this motherboard assuming I want to stick with the 2x2GB stick option?

I've been pretty happy with Corsair's performance in the current game rig (an older ASUS AMD 939 system) and I'm pretty sure I want to go Gigabyte this time around.

The rub right now is that the motherboard that I mentioned earlier (GA-EP45-DS3R) in this thread is out of stock so I'm considering some alternatives from Gigabyte such as the:

GA-EP45-UD3P and the GA-EP45-UD3R

The issue is that the Corsair memory selector doesn't have anything listed for either one of these motherboards yet so I'm trying to figure out the best way to figure how what memory to get if I were to purchase one of these boards.

Is the best course of action to just call Corsair customer service or tech support and discuss it with them?

the link "QVL" (2 post above this one) has a list with tested Corsair modules in it, including the TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF and the TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX

But you can always call in ofcourse

Default Hey Mr. Ram Guy

I saw those on the list, but I wasn't sure if the memory size of the individual memory sticks impacted anything.

So let's just go to the source to make sure I don't screw this up:

Hey, Mr. RAM Guy...

Can I use TWIN2X4096-8500C5D with a GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard then?

Yes that MB takes DDR2 so you should be good to go. However, you will need to ask GigaByte if the MB BIOS will allow you to set the memory to Voltage manually to a max of 2.1 Volts.
