I turned on my pc and about after an hour or so it shut off. I went into the other room and asked my father if the power went out in the room he was in and he said nope.

I went back to turn on the pc and it powered on for about two or three seconds then powered off. I saw the standby light on the motherboard so I thought the ram or another component broke. I switched out my ram and video card and it was still the same. I checked the cpu and it didnt look damaged or anything. I made sure everything was connected right.

I came to here and tried the paper clip test and the fan came on for about two seconds and went off. I did this ten times to make sure I wasnt doing anything wrong. Is the power supply broken or something? And if so should I try to ask NewEgg to replace it?

Thanks for any help someone can give me.

The reason for the new purchase was after playing games such as COD MW2 my computer would continuously just shut off, i would have to restart it manually and everything would work fine till i played the game again. So after some reading I figured its was a bad psu. Now i have the TX750 and was playing OFDR and this time the computer shut off and I saw a spark come out the back. The computer will not turn on now the power supply is dead. Is there any possible way that my system is too much for these power supplies, or is it just that i had a cheap piece of crap, then a faulty Corsair psu?

Sorry for the dumb question, but this is my first build...ever :(:

I only have two sata devices in my build, the HDD and the Optical dvd burner.
For running the sata cable from the power supply to the device, is there a best practice? For example, do I use just one cable since it has 4 connections on it and use two of them, or should I use seperate cables where one device gets it's own power cable?

If I use 2 cables, it there a reason to use a particular sata connector (for example, the connector at the very end of the wire, the first connector closest to the power side, etc.

If I use 1 cable, for good cable managment, it looks like I'd use the sata connector closest to the power side for the HDD and then either the 3rd or end connector for the optical.

Thanks for helping out a functial retard...

History:

Before I made the switch the computer seemed fine. When I turned the computer on after installing 400CX, Vista did not boot. There was a message about a problem with Windows due to a hardware change. I clicked on Repair and then when prompted to I clicked on Restore to earlier version. After that the screen just stayed blank.

The next time I turned on the computer I ignored the Repair option and chose the Open Windows Normally option. After close to 10 minutes, Vista did open. I had lost a dll file, so I reloaded the application. Things seem to work OK, but Vista takes 8 minutes to load.

The connections have been checked by friends who claim to know what they are doing ;-)

What could be wrong?

I contacted tech support on this, however I just wanted to see if anyone else out there had a similar problem such as this. Last April I upgraded my 300W PSU to the TX650W in accommodate upgrades and future upgrades to my system, however about three weeks ago my cpu started to reset itself randomly upon being on for a few hours, then three days later it was unusable. Able to stay on for about 3 minutes then it would reset itself to a black screen until it cooled down again. The board it was connected to in question was a p4p800 deluxe, in which it would report 'cpu failed system test', 'vga failed system test', or nothing at all as it would just not boot. Anyhow, I finally yanked the board out as I trouble shot everything else (a business trip in between did not help the process), and as I was removing the last ATX 20 PIN connector it was difficult to remove, after yanking it out I found the connectors melted/burned into place. I have attached a picture to show exactly the problem, anyone else experience this?

Hi all,

I have recently had a problem with my Corsair HX520 PSU.

Hi all,

I have recently had a problem with my Corsair HX520 PSU.

Over the last few days, if the PC is left on and not in use for about an hour, the PSU emits a very loud continuous whine/beep. I am sure there are no speakers inside the PSU, but that is the only way to describe it.

The PSU has occasionaly made an odd whine when the PC powers off (ever since I have had it), its like a short whine for about a second rising with an upward inflection. Now when left alone and not under load (it seems) the PSU makes the noise continuously, and the second long whine follows when I cycle the power switch (the PC hangs when this sound is made).

I can use the PC continuously for hours, it only seems to be when it's left unattended?

I have had the PSU for a few years (it was purchased in early 2007).

The only things that have changed recently are a full wipe and upgrade to Windows 7 (was on Vista X64 before) and an upgrade to the BIOS.

I want to test to make sure it is definitely the PSU (the sound definitely seems like its coming from the PSU), but I do not have a spare PSU to test with - do I have to go out and buy a brand new PSU to check this or does someone have another way of checking this?

I wanted to pass it through you guys before I open a potentially solvable RMA?

Thanks all.
Dan

EDIT: Sorry should have mentioned that I don't overclock and never have.
